I included the first paragraph as a show of character and my willingness to learn and grow with the organization. I forgot to mention that I am a 15 year old trying to get into NHS at a high school. The prompt is a bit different from the rubric they have so I probably should have included that too. The rubric basically says not to be modest and include everything no matter what the other application parts say. Also it is reviewed for grammar, showing character, service and leadership. The max amount for this is about 500 words. Thanks for the help! Finally, I have helped my community by volunteering in the medical field. I spent the last summer working at a home for the elderly, where I was able to listen to life stories, participate in activities -- be more specific, and learn about working in the healthcare field. Volunteering is a valuable experience that has helped me become a better person. I look forward to continuing my volunteer work in the medical field in the future.
