This is a film that will appeal to fans of the genre, and is especially recommended for those who haven't seen it before. It is also worth seeing in its uncut version, which includes an extra three minutes of gore. Quentin Tarantino has named it as one of his favorite slasher films.
Sweatshirt
As the first slasher film to feature Valentine's Day as its basis, is a good example of what the genre was about back in 1981. It has some good suspense and the requisite gore, but it's not a cinematic masterpiece.

The film has a few cliches and bad acting, but it's still a pretty good slasher. Besides the usual buckets of blood and killings, there's some subtle stylishness and the setting adds to the creepiness.
The film is directed by George Mihalka who has made some other good horror films (Psychic, Relative Fear, Watchtower). It was re-premiered at video-market in 2009 with 3 minutes of gore added, and became a success all around the world ; even Quentin Tarantino has named it as his favorite slasher movie.
