The Institute of Creative Technologies at the University of Southern California found that most people self-disclose more easily to a healthcare virtual assistant than to a human practitioner because they are less concerned about the bot being judgmental about embarrassing information.

“We know that developing a rapport and feeling free of judgment are two important factors that affect a person’s willingness to disclose personal information,” according to Jonathan Gratch, ICT’s director of virtual humans research. “The virtual character delivered on both these fronts, and that is what makes this a particularly valuable tool for obtaining information people might feel sensitive about sharing.”
