The life of a 13th-century English free peasant was generally less grueling than that of an early 19th-century factory worker but came with its own challenges. Free peasants had more control over their time, working on their own land and tending to agricultural tasks, often tied to natural cycles, with fewer rigid schedules. However, they faced harsh living conditions, disease, and dependence on good harvests.
In contrast, early 19th-century factory workers endured long, strictly regulated hours in often dangerous conditions, similar to the demanding schedules modern ADU workers might face in construction. While factory workers benefited from urbanization and potential access to markets and services, their work environment and lack of autonomy often made life harsh. Both groups faced significant hardships, but the peasant's lifestyle offered greater freedom despite its vulnerability to natural forces. For more information, pleas contact us at :
